FanttikRide C9 Pro Review – Will the Scooter Really Grow with Your kid?

One thing that frequently comes up when I talk to parents who are looking to buy an electric scooter for their kid is: will my child outgrow this in six months? As a fellow parent myself I understand why this is one of the key questions I get. You don’t want to go above their level and you don’t want to go below. That’s what we look at when we test electric scooters for kids.

The one we’re testing now, Fanttik C9 Pro, promises to help with this using a sweet kids design with a adjustable handlebar that works from 32.5 to 37.5″, that’s 3 different positions. Nothing ground breaking, we’ve seen this on the likes of Ik3 Pro or Ik3Max too. But can this newer brand compete with the more established brands such as the above models from Iscooter, Segway and Gotrax?

The scooter has already taken a small slice of the pie, but does it deserve to take a bigger slice? The C9 pro is according to its manufacturer targeting kids 8-12 years old, jumping into competition with a segment dominated by established brands like Segway with their C2. So what does the C9 Pro bring to the table? It brings some neat rainbow LED lights that the kids just love, three speed modes which is important for a scooter targeting a growing rider, and the adjustable handlebar. But does the “grows with your kid” angle really justify choosing this over other alternatives that are similarly priced. That’s exactly what we’re going to test for.

Time to take my metaphorical testing cap and put it on my little 8 y/o princess to see how well it stands up against the competition!

Detailed Review

Motor Power and Speed – Adequate but Not Groundbreaking

The C9 Pro packs a 130W motor with three simple speed modes: 5 mph, 8 mph, and the max 10 mph. That 10 mph top speed matches most kids scooters in this category, including the Gyroor H30Max and iScooter iK3. For our recommended age group the 130W motor will handle gentle slopes just fine, but steeper inclines will slow it down noticeably. Why we recommend it to kids 6-10 rather than the manufacturers 8-12.

The progressive speed modes are a neat safety feature to have. Most competitors offer this too, though, so it’s table stakes rather than a standout feature. But its always nice to be able to adjust the speed and acceleration depending on where your kid is on the “ride experience scale.”

Battery and Range – The Weak Spot

Our test gave us 3.8 miles in total out of the 54Wh battery, that seems to be the consensus among the $100 kids scooters. That translates to about 30-40 minutes of continuous riding. For comparison we recently tested the iScooter iK3 which manages a real-life range of 4.7 miles from a smaller 46.8Wh battery, it is a bit weaker in terms of sheer motor power though.

Charge time are pretty insane at 5 hours for a full recharge. Not the end of the world, but it means plugging in overnight and hoping your kid doesn’t want a second session the same day.

Ride Quality – Smooth Surfaces Only

The C9 Pro like most of its competitors rolls on 6-inch solid tires providing nothing in terms of suspension.

That means you’ll aim for smooth sidewalks and bike paths and avoid bumpy pavement, grass, or dirt. Every crack and bump transfers straight through the deck to your kid’s feet and hands. After extended sessions, younger riders with less developed grip strength might complain about hand fatigue from vibrations.

Apart from that it delivers a fun ride with good braking, it works great for its intended audience.

Braking – Single Rear Fender

The C9 Pro uses a rear fender brake activated by stepping on the rear guard. This is a common braking system when it comes to kids scooters and it works just fine at 10 mph speeds. It won’t stop on a dime, but its super simple and kids figure it out really quickly.

What bugs me a bit is that there are similarly priced scooters with dual braking systems, even if its just electric + fender brakes. The iScooter iK3 has an e-brake plus footbrake.

The motor won’t engage until your kid has a foot on the deck and pushes it to 3 mph. This prevents unexpected acceleration when kids are just mounting the scooter. But again, this is a feature found almost across the board.

Features

Cockpit

The handlebar-mounted display shows speed, battery level, and riding mode. Basic but functional. No Bluetooth connectivity or app integration like you get with premium Segway models, but also less chance for issues.

Lights

Here’s where the C9 Pro scores some extra points with its target audience. Kids absolutely adore the rainbow LED lights and it has 5 different modes. This is definitely a feature that generates the most excitement among young riders. Are they necessary? No. Do they make neighborhood rides more fun for an 8-year-old? It absolutely does.

Build Quality

The aluminum alloy frame is industry standard, but fit and finish appears less refined than established brands. Without hands-on testing, we can’t assess rattles, paint quality, or long-term durability.

Portability At 17.6 lbs, this is one of the lighter options for kids this age range. The folded dimensions of 29.5 x 14.6 x 10.6 inches are compact enough for literally every single vehicle storage on the market.

Safety Considerations

Beyond the kick to start and speed limiting, safety features are minimal. The LED lights help with visibility, but they’re more decorative than functional for serious low-light riding.

The 10 mph top speed is appropriate for kids 6-10. Fast enough to feel exciting, slow enough to stay safe. The three-mode progression lets parents control when their child is ready to jump to the next level.

One concern I have is that without extensive history, we don’t know how well this holds up over time. Does the brake wear eat the tires quickly? Does the battery degrade faster than usual? Do the LED lights fail? Established brands like Segway have track records (not saying its spotless because it ain’t, but its present).

Who Should Buy the FanttikRide C9 Pro?

The C9 Pro will work best for:

  • Kids aged 6-10 will get the most fun out of the scooter and if you target 6-8 your kid will definitely have a scooter to grow with them for a bit.
  • The lights makes kids really excited about it, and although we may not think it’s important, the more fun it is the more likely they are to use it more frequently.
  • Those who prioritize portability, maybe your 8-year-old needs to carry it themselves frequently.
  • Comfortable with limited reliability history to save a few bucks.

Who Should Avoid This

  • Parents wanting proven reliability should choose the Segway C2 Lite or PRO despite the higher price-tag.
  • If braking or extra parental controls are important to you, skip it.
  • Parents with really young riders 4-5.

Final Verdict

The FanttikRide C9 Pro occupies an uncomfortable middle ground. It’s not cheap enough to be the obvious budget pick (the iScooter iK3 matches it on price with slightly better range). It’s not feature-rich enough to justify skipping the Gyroor H30Max for a few dollars more.

The adjustable handlebar is a fantastic feature, but it’s not unique to the C9, and doesn’t overcome the C9 Pro’s performance limitations. The rainbow LED lights are so much fun for the kids, but that too is something we regularly see on scooters targeting this age range.

So back to our initial question, can the C9 Pro grow with your child? Yes, if you start them with it at the age of 6-8. But the Gyroor can grow with them while going twice as far on each charge for a very small bump in payment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ages is the FanttikRide C9 Pro suitable for?

After testing we can conclude that the 8-12 years age range is not correct. Our recommendation is that kids 6-10 get the most out of the scooter, while it will work for 10-12 year old kids, performance will take too much of a beating.

How far can my child ride on a single charge?

Fanttik claims 5 miles with 40-60 minutes of continuous riding. Real-world range are realistically more close to just under 4 miles and 30-40 minutes of riding time.

Is the C9 Pro better than the Segway C2 Lite?

I would argue the C2 Lite is the better ride, apart from not having an adjustable handlebar it delivers more performance and has a bunch of additional features.

Can the C9 Pro handle hills?

Gentle slopes, yes. Steeper hills will slow it down significantly. The 130W motor is mainly built for younger riders and leveled roads.

What’s the return policy if my kid doesn’t like it?

Fanttik offers a 30-day return window. If you buy from Amazon, their return policy applies instead. Test it thoroughly within that window.
