Review: Best Electric Scooters

Apollo City Dual Motor

The Ultimate Commuter Electric Scooter
A clear frontal view of the Apollo City 2023 with two hub motors

When it comes to the ultimate electric scooter for commuters, the Apollo City is the frontrunner. Its sleek design conceals a wealth of features.

The 2023 Apollo City model boasts dual 500W hub motors, clocking in at a maximum speed of 31.1 mph (50 km/h) during our test ride. These powerful motors are complemented by a robust 48V/20Ah (960Wh) battery, providing our rider with a real-world range of up to 26 miles. With this kind of power under your feet, dependable brakes are a must, and the City doesn’t disappoint. Equipped with a dual drum-brake system, the Apollo City scooter delivers smooth yet prompt stops. What sets its braking system apart is the addition of a throttle-controlled regenerative motor brake, perfect for easing off during downhill descents or when full-force braking isn’t necessary. This gives you far greater control over how much energy is regenerated during your rides. Combined with its IP66 water rating, this electric scooter is suitable for riding in any weather conditions.

The scooter’s visual appeal speaks for itself, but every aspect has been meticulously designed with rider comfort and safety in mind. Visibility is key when commuting, and Apollo’s City scooter excels here too, with turn signals on both the handlebar and frame, along with bright headlights and brake lights.

Thanks to its large 10″ self-healing pneumatic tires and a triple spring shock absorption system (two in the rear and one in the front), it ranks at the top among the smoothest commuter scooters available.

If you opt for the Apollo City, you’re in for a genuinely enjoyable ride. It not only offers the ultimate commuting experience but also transforms those daily mundane commutes into exciting adventures!

E-move Cruiser S

Best All-Weather & Long-Range Scooter
The Emove Cruiser S long range scooter in action riding in the park

Ever since VoroMotor’s launch of the E-move Cruiser in 2019, it’s been the go-to model for people looking to get the most range per dollar spent. Through the years it has had multiple upgrades and its latest iteration is no different. Presenting the 2023 E-move Cruiser S, the eraser of what we in the industry like to call “range anxiety”.

Surprising to even us, the new Cruiser comes in lighter than its predecessor at 56.5 lbs. Without compromising on its quality or its ability to support heavier riders of up to 352 lbs. It delivers one of the best riding experiences in the sub-$1500 category and in terms of performance, it over-delivers in almost every test in comparison to similarly equipped scooters.

With a rear-mounted 1000W motor topping out at a tested speed of 31.9 mph, you won’t only get great range; you’ll get a ton of power under your feet too. In fact, the Cruiser S outperforms almost every other scooter within its price range when it comes to both acceleration and top speed. The scooter has a 1560Wh large battery pack that uses 21700 lithium cells, and during our test ride, we were able to go an impressive 43.6 miles on a single charge.

Riding is extremely comfortable thanks to its 10” tubeless pneumatic tires paired with a quad suspension setup with 2 front and 2 rear shock-springs. Its has a large deck that provides a ton of foot space in order to cater to all sizes of riders.

It has a sine-wave motor controller and a thumb throttle as standard, but you can opt for 3 other options: trigger, twist, and paddle. A visible handlebar-mounted display with all the bells and whistles like a horn, mode settings, light switch, and even frame-mounted turn signals—everything we expect to find on a high-quality scooter.

In terms of braking power, it has quality Xtech disc brakes on top of a well-optimized regenerative motor brake. Together they give you rapid and smooth braking, and there is little to no play in the brake levers.

From an all-weather perspective we have tested the scooter thoroughly and it passed every step flawlessly. With a IPX6 rating we started out by drenching the scooter both with a hose and by riding in pouring rain and we were not able to find any signs of water penetrating any of the crucial electronics of the scooter. Even in water the brakes were able to operate at 75-80% capacity which is more than acceptable for a wet ride. The splash guards does what you expect them to do, and the tires give you adequate grip as long as you ride responsibly.

There are a lot more to this great and versatile long-range electric scooter than meets the eye, or fit in a review summary. But expect an electric scooter perfectly optimized for quality, comfort, and range. It is easy to ride, gives you great performance no matter the weather, and it is highly praised by both beginners to professional riders alike.

TurboAnt X7 PRO

Best Campus Ride & Teen Scooter

The X7 Pro from TurboAnt is very dear to my heart. Why you might ask? Well, I was fortunate enough to get the first version of the X7 back in early 2019, and that exact model still stands closest to the door in my garage because I still use it daily 4 years later. I have yet to have to change or repair anything but a few flats, and that is a fairly simple process.

Now the X7 Pro is an even further step up in terms of performance and durability, with some extra optimizations for better range. The new battery is still detachable but it is now attached to the stem, instead of inside it, just like on the Segway ES-series. It is a 36V battery that packs 360Wh of power, which translates to a real-world range of up to 17.6 miles per charge.

Since the scooter has a detachable battery you can extend your ride up to double the distance by simply adding a spare battery. In addition, detaching your battery makes the scooter much lighter and easier to transport, it also makes the gripping of the stem much more comfortable. Also locking and leaving your electric scooter on the campus without a battery attached, will be a surefire way to help deter thieves from even bothering with trying.

The TurboAnt X7 Pro comes with a 350W front-mounted hub motor that were able to achieve a top speed of 19.1 mph during our test. The speed and torque did decline quite dramatically once we got down to the 50-25% battery marker.

It comes with 10” pneumatic tires that use tubes which means it is prone to flats. It is quite easy to change them yourself, but if you prefer, any regular bike shop should be able to handle it for a couple of bucks. The tires give the ride excellent comfort and suspension for an electric scooter that comes with none and the deck is nice and thin having the battery and all its electronics on/in the stem.

The X7 folds down nicely and if you detach the battery you have a really lightweight scooter to work with. However, due to the battery and motor placement the scooter tends to be a bit front heavy. But on the other hand, a higher weight on your front tire means better grip for the motor while riding.

The X7 Pro is a great scooter for college students due to its adaptability. Having that detachable battery is really nice for many different reasons; theft deterring, extending its range, easier to transport. So If you’re looking for a nimble yet powerful electric scooter capable of handling the everyday tasks of someone living on a campus, take a good hard look at the Turboant X7 PRO.

Kaabo Mantis King GT

Best City & Snowy Roads Scooter
Kaabo Mantis King GT is the perfect All-weather electric scooter

Straight out of the box, the new Mantis King GT from Kaabo proves to be an exceptional all-terrain electric scooter. Boasting an IPX5 classification, it confidently handles snowy weather conditions, although there’s always a slight risk involved. The scooter’s tires feature an impressive profile for navigating snowy roads on their own. However, for those seeking an even more snow-proof grip and enhanced quality during icy rides, consider opting for a second set of studded snow tires. That’s right; Voro Motors offers specialized tires designed explicitly for Mantis users who want year-round riding capability. These 10-inch tires sport a deep profile and large studs to ensure exceptional grip, whether you’re tackling snowy roads or navigating pure ice.

The Kaabo Mantis King delivers a significant power punch right at your fingertips. Outfitted with dual 1100W hub motors, this equates to over 4200W of peak power. During our testing, we achieved an impressive top speed of 44.7 mph. The acceleration is amazing, yet it retains a smooth speed transition thanks to its 30A Sinewave controller. Equipped with a 1440Wh 60V Samsung cell battery the Mantis King provides a real-world riding distance of 38.5 miles on a single charge.

In terms of ride comfort, the standard 10-inch hybrid tires offer some suspension but can be slightly noisier than your average pneumatic tires. The most substantial improvement in comfort comes from the front and rear hydraulic suspensions, which are adjustable via a small dial, allowing you to fine-tune them to your preference.

The folding system has seen many improvement, making it significantly easier to fold compared to its earlier versions. However, it’s worth noting that the stem isn’t as fixed as in similarly powerful models.

Electric scooter with studded tires in the snow - Mantis King GT

Another winter riding perk is the presence of dual hydraulic disc brakes, which will remain unfazed by freezing temperatures. While the discs may experience a slight reduction in braking power when wet, it remained in the upper 80% capacity. If paired with steel studded tires, you’ll still come to a halt much sooner than any other electric scooter with standard tires.

If you’re in search of a high-performing electric scooter that you can confidently ride on any terrain and in any weather, then the Kaabo Mantis King GT is the perfect scooter for you!

E-move RoadRunner V2

Best Seated Electric Scooter
RoadRunner V2 is the best electric scooter with a seat available

The Roadrunner V2 from Emove is not your average electric scooter, it has a unique design similar to a smaller bike with footrest instead of pedals. This gives you a comfortable seated position while riding and the handlebars are adjustable depending on your posture/height. The seat, featuring memory foam, cradles your behind with the embrace it deserves, making extended rides an absolute pleasure. Combine these features with the convenience of a removable battery, a dual motor setup, and generously sized 14-inch tires, and you’re in for an incredibly enjoyable and highly comfortable ride.

There’s no middle ground with the Roadrunner; it’s purpose-built for comfortably seated commuting. The 14-inch pneumatic tubeless tires provide good shock absorption on their own, and Emove takes it a step further with a high-quality adjustable Manitou Absolute spring suspension front fork.

The Emove Roadrunner V2 has a dual motor setup with a 350W hub motor in the front and a 500W motor in the rear providing you with a total of 850W nominal power at your disposal. During our test ride, we were able to get it up to 36 mph and the acceleration was rapid yet smooth enough not to feel jerky.

You can expect a real-world range of up to 35 miles on a single charge, and as noted the scooter has a detachable battery which means you can double that range by carrying a spare. With a commendable weight capacity of up to 330 lbs, this robust machine offers ample speed and distance, even for riders pushing its limitations.

Clear view of the rear motor, battery and brake of the Emove Roadrunner v2

Its portability remains unhindered despite its resilient build, tipping the scales at 63 lbs. The foldable handlebar and tool-free peg removal makes it easier to store away. Safety remains paramount, with features such as turn signals, brake lights, rear and headlights, ensuring secure navigation amidst traffic.

We recommend the Emove Roadrunner V2 as a great choice for those in search of a plush, steady ride imbued with a race feel, all while upholding ease of control and operation. Without question, it stands out as one of the more luxuriously comfortable rides we’ve had the privilege of testing, without compromising on the thrill factor!

Kaabo Wolf King GTR

Best Performance/Heavy-Duty/Off-Road & $2,000+ Scooter
Wolf king GTR is the fastest, strongest and best dual motor scooter available

If you’re looking for a high-performance electric scooter that is among the best in the class while still not costing you a fortune, then the sub-$2,000 winner, Kaabo Wolf King GTR, is exactly what you’re looking for.

With a crazy 13,340W of total peak power across its 2 brushless hub motors we were able to top 65.2 mph during our testing. The best part, it didn’t feel like I was going that fast due to how stable the ride felt. I did squat down to reduce wind resistance, which admittingly felt a little bit sketchy at those crazy speeds. So make sure your purchase of this scooter is accompanied by some serious protective gear.

The GTR has the same-sized 72V 35Ah battery as the GT Pro, providing a total of 2419Wh of power to the motors through its 160Ampere(peak) 2-in-1 sinewave controller. Distance wise we were able to get a 44.4-mile total range, which is slightly lower than the GT Pro. The reason for that being it has a lot more power which resulted in a higher average speed throughout the test.

The new sinewave controller delivers a massive surge of power right from the start In the highest mode, ‘S mode,’ burnouts are almost inevitable, regardless of your current speed. This can make the mode a bit intimidating to use in city environments, and it nearly makes the traction control setting essential.

Typically, traction control can make a scooter feel slower and less exciting, but with the Wolf King GTR, it actually enhances the ride, offering greater control and improved handling. Traction control also adds an extra layer of safety when riding aggressively, which is likely how you’ll use a scooter of this caliber. Besides ‘S mode,’ there are around eight other modes to choose from, all of which include the option to enable traction control.

The high deck and rear adjustable spring suspension on the GTR

During our acceleration test we were able to reach 30 mph in as little as3.4 seconds, that is definitely up there among the top models in terms of acceleration.

Just like any highly capable electric scooter should, the GTR is equipped with large robust fully hydraulic disc brakes. Giving it not only far superior braking performance but it also make the brakes less likely to overheat and bend.

In terms of riding experience and comfort the dual stem gives the Wolf King models such impeccable stability during high speed riding, that they don’t even need a steering damper. With that sturdiness combined with its complicated but solid folding latch mechanism, there is zero wiggle room.

The 12”x4” hybrid tires have a good track profile that doesn’t make much noise no matter the surface you’re riding on. One of my favorite features is the separate rim and motor, it makes changing tires so much easier. But you don’t have to worry about doing it too often since the tires are tubeless and self-sealing to avoid flats in the first place.

It has one of the best suspension setups we’ve tested to date and they are both adjustable, the front suspension already has a pretty stiff pre-load so it’s pretty much only usable for heavier riders as most lightweights like myself are going to go with the smoothest setting. The rear suspension is dial-adjusted, where you can adjust the actual bounce-back strength, something that is getting quite common nowadays. During our test ride, we never bottomed out even when jumping down some pretty high curbs.

The new suspension setup gives the GTR a crazy high ground clearance, which translates to quite a step down when you stop at red lights.

The 12” hybrid tires in combination with the raw power and high peak output made the GTR a blast to ride off-road and it shoots up even the steepest hills we tested.

It has a new lightning system all around except for the headlight which, to be honest is one of the best already, you get turning lights and rear lights as well as hazard lights when you put it in walk mode. The turning lights even have indicators on the large 4.2” display. A display that is easy to read in any lighting and is pretty much as waterproof as a display can get.

On the display, you can do and read pretty much everything about what’s going on with the Kaabo Wolf King GTR, into the nitty gritty details.

Clear view of the dual controllers on the wolf king GTR

So who are the customers that buy the Wolf King GTR?

The traction control and sturdy design make it easy to ride so anyone can ride it, and with 8 modes and customization at your fingertips, you can pretty much set it up to fit any occasion or chore. But I would argue that the GTR is for those of us with an inner daredevil, who love that aggressive riding style. Even though you get all this power at your fingertips, Kaabo has done an excellent job at making sure the handling of the scooter is up to par with its power. The Wolf King GTR delivers an excellent ride for a lot less than many of its competitors.

Mosquito Fluid

Best Lightweight & Portable Scooter
Best lightweight electric scooter Mosquito overview of its compact size

The Mosquito Fluid packs a ton of power for such a small and lightweight electric scooter. Built by the popular scooter brand FluidFreeride who has years of experience with performance electric scooters you expect the mosquito to be pushing boundaries, and it does. It is the result of a collaboration with the seasoned lightweight electric scooter manufacturer E-twow who has over 9 years of experience with slim portable city scooters.

It has a strong front-mounted 500W motor that makes this zippy scooter the fastest in its class, it combines its impressive speed with a 9.6Ah battery capable of delivers more range than most of its competitors. We benchmarked it at a crazy 27.4 mph in terms of top speed and 17.1 miles of total range during our testing. Both are numbers you rarely see in the feather weight division of electric scooters.

Intuitive display, handlebars, and cockpit of the fluid mosquito

Thanks to its compact size, extendable handlebars, and neat folding system it makes for a great urban commuter that you can easily load into a trunk, onto a bus, or any other public transport. It is a sweet and fun ride with great acceleration and hill-climbing capabilities. However, although the dual front and rear suspensions are great, it does not fully make up for the solid 8” tires. It just doesn’t soak up shocks from bad roads like a set of pneumatic’s would.

The Fluid Mosquito is the ideal electric scooter for anyone seeking a nimble yet powerful urban ride. It’s perfect for city commuting, offering plenty of fun with its zippy performance. However, if the roads in your area aren’t in the best condition, the 8-inch solid tires might be a bit of a drawback.

Gotrax G4

Best Beginner Scooter
G4 from Gotrax - A great electric scooter for new adult riders

The Gotrax G4 is a reliable entry-level model, very popular among new riders, mainly due to its well-balanced performance-to-price ratio. It offers solid performance, comes from a trusted brand, and gives you a lot of scooter for your money.

Equipped with a 500W rear-mounted hub motor, the G4 can reach a top speed of 20 mph (though we hit 19.2 mph in our test). It features two speed modes: one with a max of 20 mph and another capped at 15.5 mph. This makes it easy to limit your speed when starting out, allowing you to get a feel for how everything works. The handling is sturdy and easy to maneuver, and its operation is straightforward—grab the handlebar, give it a kick, press the throttle, and off you go. With everything in moderation, you’re unlikely to get into any serious trouble with the G4.

Powering this beloved newcomer is a 36V 374Wh battery, which delivered a real-world range of 13.7 miles during our tests.

The Gotrax G4’s folding mechanism is similar to other beginner/commuter scooters, latching onto the rear fender so you can easily lift its 37 lbs with a firm grip on the stem. A unique feature is the built-in numeric locking mechanism. You can pull out a wire near the base of the stem and lock the scooter. While I wouldn’t fully rely on it for security, it’s handy when you forget your regular lock.

The deck is 6.7 inches wide and long enough for larger feet to find a comfortable and secure position. The center-placed display is large and easy to read in any weather. While it lacks suspension, the 10-inch pneumatic tires do a great job of absorbing shocks from bumps along the way.

The Gotrax G4 is perfect for adults or teens under 220 lbs who are just getting started with electric scooters. It’s a reliable model that has stood the test of time, delivering a moderate yet consistently enjoyable ride.

Wolf Warrior X

Best Sub-$2,000 Scooter

If you’re in the market for a performance electric scooter under $2,000, the Wolf Warrior X from Kaabo is undoubtedly a top contender. With its powerful setup and sleek, road-ready design, the Wolf Warrior X is built for riders seeking to elevate their experience.

Equipped with two 1100W motors and a 60V system delivering 1260Wh of battery power, this scooter doesn’t disappoint. During our test ride, we hit a top speed of 44.2 mph and managed a solid 32.1 miles of range. All this power is housed in a rugged dual-stem frame, offering ample space for riders of all sizes.

The frame is well-constructed, featuring dual suspension and Zoom hydraulic disc brakes for excellent stopping power. A full lighting system ensures great visibility, day or night, and Kaabo has upgraded the scooter with a large, center-mounted display packed with the features you’d expect from a high-end model.

The Wolf Warrior X handles high speeds with ease, and even rough terrain is no issue, especially with the option for off-road tires. Weighing in at 79 lbs, it’s considered lightweight for its class, and while folding the stem allows it to pass the “trunk test,” carrying it up a few flights of stairs is manageable but requires a bit more effort than your typical portable scooter.

Overall, the Wolf Warrior X is a fantastic investment for those who want portability without sacrificing power. It strikes an impressive balance between performance and practicality, all for a very reasonable price given what it offers.

Emove Touring

Best Big Rider & Sub-$1,000 Scooter

The Emove Touring electric scooter is our #1 recommendation if you’re in the market for a scooter under $1,000. It’s study build, spacious design, and powerful performance has also landed it a number 1 spot in our big rider test.

The scooter is equipped with a 624Wh 48V battery capable of delivering a realistic range of up to 19.4 miles on a single charge. In the rear wheel you find a strong 500W motor which we maxed out at 23.3 mph.

In terms of ride quality the scooter has a very spacious deck, wider than normal handlebar that is height adjustable, and the option to attach a seat. The Touring scooter isn’t the lightest option in its class, but weighing in at 39 lbs it has a great performance per pound ratio. It has a standard folding mechanism that lets you easily fold it down for storing or transportation purposes.

The scooter is equipped with a rear 10″ solid tire and a pneumatic front tire this would make it a little more bumpy than your average scooter with two air-filled tires, but in comparison to most scooters this price class it also has a dual suspension system.

When it is time to stop, you do so using the dual brake system which consists of a combo brake with a rear drum brake and a regenerative motor brake, which work just as well in the rain as it does in dry weather.

A great scooter with a lot of performance while keeping its portability intact. Ample space for the rider to stand comfortably or sit if they choose to purchase the seat addon. For big guys and girls they will be very pleased with the wide handlebar, that is also adjustable up and down so that you can zero in the perfect height for you.

TurboAnt M10 Lite

Best Sub-$300 Scooter

In the bargain-priced class of scooters under $300, TurboAnt’s M10 Lite stands out. While it may not feature the most advanced technology or break any speed records, it offers an impressive ride for its price. Aimed at newcomers to electric scooters, it’s a perfect choice for those who want to dip their toes into the world of e-scooters without a long-term commitment.

The M10 Lite sports a straightforward, no-frills design, but despite its low price tag, it packs a decent 350W front-wheel motor and a 36V 238Wh battery. This motor is on par with, if not stronger than, many scooters in the sub-$500 category and can handle typical city hills. However, we recommend giving the scooter a few kicks to help extend its range.

In our city ride tests, we achieved a respectable 8.3 miles of range and hit a top speed of 15.3 mph—solid numbers for a scooter at this price point. One notable difference is the 8.5-inch pneumatic tires, which are slightly smaller than the more common 10-inch variety, resulting in slightly lower ground clearance.

The M10 Lite comes equipped with a rear wire disc brake and a front regenerative electric brake, both working together to provide quick and reliable stopping power. It also features brake lights, a bright adjustable headlight, a center-mounted display for changing riding modes, and even a USB charging port for your devices on the go.

Weighing in at about 31 lbs, with a foldable frame and well-balanced weight distribution, the M10 Lite is highly portable and easy to carry. Overall, it’s a solid choice for beginners, teens, or anyone looking for an affordable, lightweight scooter to handle shorter commutes without breaking the bank.

Rigorous Research and Data-Driven Recommendations

Rigorous scientific testing and analysis of electric scooter

Our electric scooter recommendations are rooted in rigorous research and data analysis. We don’t solely rely on our own testing, although we dedicate extensive hours to hands-on testing of each scooter featured on Aridejunkie. That’s still only the initial stage in our meticulous three-step evaluation process.

Here is a short walkthrough of our 3-step process to creating accurate, unbiased, and authentic electric scooter reviews:

  1. Extensive hands-on testing and quality control by us
  2. Consume hours of 3rd party expert content, trusted rider’s opinions, and video reviews
  3. AI Volscribe scours verified forums, reviews, and comments for owners thoughts

Step one is where we go down into the nitty gritty and test the electric scooter models extensively and then benchmarks their performance and quality. Our testing course is the same for each model and it includes the following:
